The Fisher Covered Railroad Bridge in Wolcott, Vermont, spans the Lamoille River and was built in 1908 for the St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad, then controlled by the Boston and Maine Railroad. A rare surviving Vermont example of a double Town lattice truss, it remained in railroad use long enough that, in 1974, it was the last covered bridge in the United States still carrying rail traffic. Threatened with demolition in 1968, it was preserved by adding a pier and steel girders beneath it. Now closed to trains, the bridge survives as part of the Lamoille County Rail Trail.
