Insignia on M
History
4
A quiet block that once served as an entrance to the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro station became part of the bustling Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. St. Matthews Baptist Church, built in 1972, stood on the land until developer Donohoe bought it in 2005. In 2006, a sign announced plans for an office building, but those plans changed as the residential market became dominant in the riverfront neighborhood. St. Matthews held its last service in 2014 before moving to a new location in Maryland, and in spring 2017 the 13-story mixed-use residential building Insignia on M opened with ground-floor retail space for shops and restaurants.
