Gaudineer Knob is the 4,449-foot summit of Shavers Mountain in eastern West Virginia near Cheat Bridge, on the Randolph-Pocahontas county line. Once an unnamed peak in a broad forest wilderness, it was named in the late 1930s for Donald Gaudineer, an early Monongahela National Forest ranger who worked on reforestation, wildfire-protection roads, fire towers, and other forest management before his death in a house fire on April 27, 1936, while trying to rescue his children. The U.S. Forest Service memorialized him by naming the summit for him. A lookout tower later stood there from 1936 into the 1970s, and the nearby Gaudineer Scenic Area preserves a rare virgin red spruce stand.
