Roche Bonhomme is a 2,495-metre peak in Jasper National Park in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies, part of the Colin Range and a prominent Athabasca Valley landmark visible from Highway 16 and the Canadian rail line. About 13 kilometres northeast of Jasper, it rises near Grisette Mountain and drains into tributaries of the Maligne River, which flows to the Athabasca. George Munro Grant named it in 1878 for its human-like profile; the French name means “Rock Fellow,” and it was officially adopted in 1947. Its geology includes Permian and Carboniferous layers capped by Triassic siltstone, and it stands in a subarctic climate with severe winter cold.
