The William E. Swigart Jr. Antique Automobile Museum in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, grew from W. Emmert Swigart’s early twentieth-century effort to save disappearing automobiles, parts, and related objects from being lost. His son, William E. Swigart Jr., greatly expanded and reorganized the collection, opening the present museum in 1957 and building it into one of the country’s notable automobile collections. Its holdings have included about 150 cars, among them rare early models and two Tucker automobiles displayed together, as well as thousands of pieces of automobilia. Despite later sales from the family collection, the museum remains a seasonal public center dedicated to preserving American motoring history.
