Trough Creek State Park in Huntingdon County is part of a larger protected landscape beside Rothrock State Forest and Raystown Lake, valued today for camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking. Its history stretches from Native American use of the valley through post-Revolutionary settlement, milling, ironmaking, and later logging, each of which reshaped the land. Industrial activity declined by the mid-19th century, and 20th-century timber cutting and fires caused further damage before recovery began in 1933 under Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration crews. Opened in 1936, the park is known for features such as Balanced Rock, Copperas Rock, and the Ice Mine, and for its continuing ecological recovery.
