The Blue Ridge Wilderness Area is a protected part of New York’s Forest Preserve in Adirondack Park, spanning the towns of Arietta, Lake Pleasant, and Indian Lake. Centered on Blue Ridge, a long east-west height of land rising from about 2,700 to 3,497 feet, it includes small trout ponds, nineteen bodies of water covering 275 acres, fifteen miles of foot trails, and three lean-tos. Its mixed Adirondack forests shift toward spruce and balsam at higher elevations. Damage from the 1950 blowdown still shapes the woods, while the Northville–Placid Trail and other routes make parts of the wilderness relatively accessible for camping, fishing, hunting, and summer recreation.
