In this building on 5 March 1946, the Right Honorable Winston Churchill, wartime Prime Minister of Great Britain, delivered his "Iron Curtain" speech after being introduced by Harry S. Truman, President of the United States of America. Westminster College Gymnasium was later designated a Registered National Historic Landmark under the provisions of the Historic Sites Act of August 21, 1935, as a site possessing exceptional value in commemorating or illustrating the history of the United States.
