Walter Tufts Soper, 1867—1931, was remembered as a distinguished citizen who desired to share his artistic appreciation with his fellow man, and this gift was given to the people of Taunton in his memory during the mayoralty of Joseph C. Chamberlain and under the Board of Park Commissioners chaired by Margaret M. Stone, with Michael J. Larkin, Deane K. Lincoln, Archie MacKinnon, and John F. McCarthy.
