Soldier Hollow is a small canyon-like hollow in Utah’s Wasatch Range within Wasatch Mountain State Park, known most widely for lending its name to the winter sports venue at its mouth. Long before its modern athletic role, the site served as a Native American encampment and was later used by Army surveyors in the eighteen fifties, a likely source of the name that endured. Its greatest prominence came with the 2002 Winter Olympics, when the venue hosted biathlon, cross-country skiing, and the cross-country segment of the Nordic combined. That Olympic facility remains active, giving this modest landscape an outsized place in Utah sports history.
