Deer Creek State Park occupies 3,260 acres in southwestern Wasatch County, Utah, near Charleston at the southwest corner of Heber Valley. Established in 1971 around Deer Creek Reservoir and Deer Creek Dam, it grew from a reservoir project authorized in 1935 to address water shortages in the Salt Lake City area and nearby farmland. Construction began in 1938, water became available in 1941, and the broader project was completed in 1955. The area later shifted from primarily fishing, when other water sports were prohibited, to a major recreation destination offering boating, sailing, swimming, windsurfing, camping, and related services, and it remains one of Utah’s better-used reservoir parks.
