Indian Wells was an Indian water hole on Joseph R. Walker's trail of 1834, where the Manly-Jayhawker parties of 1849 found their first water after five days of travel from the Argus Range. During the 1860's it was the site of a stage and freight station on the route from Los Angeles to the Coso and Cerro Gordo mines.
