During its working years, about 1890 through the 1970s, the Flowery Branch Depot served as a Richmond and Danville Railroad and Southern Railway System depot through which cotton, leather, furniture, other manufactured regional goods, and passengers passed. Sold to the City of Flowery Branch for $1.00 in 1972, the building was later rehabilitated with Federal Transportation Enhancement Funding through the Georgia Department of Transportation and moved from its original site across Railroad Ave. to 5302 Railroad Ave., the original site of the Carlisle General Merchandising Building. In 2001, the rehabilitated building was dedicated to use as a museum and community center, where it educates citizens and gives a special identity to the historic Main Street through its significance to Georgia's railroad and town development history.
