Tennent Mountain is a 6,040-foot grassy bald in the Great Balsams of western North Carolina, within Pisgah National Forest near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its largely treeless, rocky summit offers broad views across the Blue Ridge high country and helps give the Black Balsam Knob area an unusually open landscape among the region’s forested ridges. The mountain is also linked to North Carolina’s early organized hiking history through Gaillard Stoney Tennent, first president of the Carolina Mountain Club in 1923. Reached by trails from near Forest Road 816, it is a popular destination and often part of day-hiking loops across the surrounding balds.
