Devil's Courthouse is a mountain in western North Carolina on the edge of Pisgah National Forest, along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Brevard and Asheville. Known as a scenic stop, it has a moderate to strenuous trail of about half a mile leading to a summit with wide panoramic views across the Blue Ridge landscape. The mountain also has a place in Cherokee tradition. Lore associates the giant Jutaculla, or Judaculla, with a cave there, although anthropologist James Mooney placed Jutaculla at nearby Tanasee Bald. An additional story, identified only as unconfirmed rumor, holds that the formation may once have been used as a Cherokee execution platform.
