In 1887 Joseph M. Fox designed the first five holes of the Foxburg Country Club, and in 1893 the course was expanded to nine holes, resembling the present course. The holes were then given names based on distinguishing characteristics. Using pertinent historical information, the original hole names have been assigned to the current holes: Base Ball, Sheol, Chestnut Tree, Long, Hill, Glory, Ten Strike, Putters' Grief, and Yellow.
