La Garita Wilderness is a protected area in southern Colorado's La Garita Mountains, established in 1964 within the Gunnison and Rio Grande National Forests. Covering 129,626 acres, it includes sections of both the Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide Trail. Its highest point is San Luis Peak at 14,014 feet, while La Garita Peak, the feature that gave both the range and wilderness their name, rises to 13,710 feet and has an alpine climate. Access includes Forest Road 787 from Saguache Park and Cochetopa Park off State Highway 114 west of Saguache, as well as a route into Cochetopa Park from the east over Cochetopa Pass.
