The Ray Brandes House in Sammamish, Washington, built in 1952, is one of the few Frank Lloyd Wright-designed houses in the state and one of only three Wright-designed homes in Washington. Created in Wright’s Usonian style, it reflects his vision of modestly scaled American houses closely connected to their interior spaces and surrounding landscape. That concept appears in both the structure and its setting, including landscaping based on local flora and fauna to tie the home to its region. The house is regarded as one of the better preserved Usonian examples and is significant for clearly expressing Wright’s mid-20th-century architectural ideals rooted in nature.
