Lake Sammamish State Park is a five hundred twelve-acre park at the south end of Lake Sammamish near Issaquah, with extensive waterfront, beaches, picnic areas, athletic fields, trails, boat access, and a youth camp that make it a major regional recreation and launch point. Its setting also preserves a deeper history: before late nineteenth-century logging, farming, mining, and road building transformed the valley, the ancestors of the Snoqualmie, Sammamish, and Duwamish peoples used this landscape for fishing, hunting, and gathering. Those changes altered drainage and sedimentation, yet the park still contains important wetlands and shoreline habitat for wildlife and reveals both the natural and human history of the southern lake shore.
