Mount Wallace is a 13,377-foot summit on the crest of California’s Sierra Nevada, marking the boundary between Kings Canyon National Park and the John Muir Wilderness and between Fresno and Inyo counties. Ranked the seventy-ninth-highest summit in California and ninth-highest in the Evolution Region, it is part of the Evolution Group, whose peaks Theodore S. Solomons named in 1895 for figures tied to evolutionary theory. He named this peak for Alfred Russel Wallace and also recorded its first ascent by his party. Its waters drain northeast to Bishop Creek and west to Evolution Creek, and the mountain remains notable for both its rugged alpine setting and its unusual scientific naming history.
