Lake of the Woods Ranger Station, on the north shore of its namesake lake in southern Oregon, preserves an early United States Forest Service compound that grew as recreation and forest administration expanded in the early twentieth century. Most of its eight historic buildings were constructed between 1937 and 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and designed in the Cascadian rustic style, creating a notably intact ranger station ensemble. Unlike many isolated stations that declined after World War II as roads improved, this compound remained in active use and still serves the Klamath Ranger District as a work center. Its continuity of purpose and well-preserved architecture earned National Register listing in 1986.
