This building was built prior to 1912. The mercantile did business with the A and C and Swansea railroads in 1916 and has been open continuously since that time. Bouse postmaster Cora L. Johnston moved the U.S. Post Office to the store in 1924. The Townsend Family bought the A and C in 1942, and Elsie Pearl Townsend served as postmaster from 1942 to 1962. In 1943 and 1944, the U.S. Army at Camp Bouse used the A and C as its PX and Post Office. It remains open, serving local residents, winter visitors, ranchers, and tourists daily.
