Organized on July 24, 1813, by the Rev. John Spencer, this was the first institution in Arcade, then called China. The first church building on this site was erected in 1833-34. It was the meeting place of the first school of higher education in 1839, the State Convention of Western New York Abolitionists in 1840, and the Grand Liberty Convention from July 31 to August 1, 1844. The present building was erected and dedicated in 1877 and rededicated in September 1977.
