Most visitors to Maybury Sanatorium entered through this gate. The stone turrets on either side of the entrance reflected the castle theme of the Children's Camp located just up the roadway. The park's paved roads, now enjoyed by hikers, cyclists, and skiers, are the same winding roads laid out by Mr. Maybury for the sanatorium. William H. Maybury said these driveways extended over hills with excellent views of the adjacent country, down into valleys hidden between the hills, and through woods as wild and rustic as nature intended them to be, and that they would be open to the people of Detroit to enjoy this beauty spot.
