The Choctaw Nation Historical Society organized on April 8, 1970, to restore the Choctaw Capitol into a museum for the preservation of Choctaw history, heritage, and artifacts during the administration of Chief Harry J. Belvin, and the society dedicated the museum to the tribal members of The Choctaw Nation and friends.
