China Peak, a ski resort on Huntington Lake in Central California, opened in 1958 to serve the southwest Sierra Nevada, where few skiing options existed. Founded by Knut Flint and developed with Herbert Schwarz, it began with an unusually long chairlift and ambitious plans, but early growth was hampered by limited services, harsh winters, and financial trouble that led to bankruptcy and a change of ownership in 1960–61. Greater stability came after Joe Weirick and his father bought the area in 1964 and expanded it over many years. Later renamed Sierra Summit, it regained the China Peak name in 2010, survived damage from the 2020 Creek Fire, and reopened for the 2021–2022 season.
