History
1
West of the Annex Building, the Nurses' Home was built in 1928 with rooms for 70 resident nurses and a suite for the superintendent of nurses. Tuberculosis sanatorium care required a longer period of convalescence than most conditions, giving nurses the opportunity to develop more personal associations with patients, an aspect many on the staff found rewarding in their careers. Spring blooms in the field still recall the well-tended rock garden that once stood next to the building. In 1941, Superintendent of Nurses Rosa M. Sayles, R.N., urged patients and staff to work together to make each stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible and to win the coveted "o.k."
