Kensington Metropark is a large regional park in southeastern Michigan within the Huron–Clinton Metroparks system. Opened in 1947, it spans 4,543 acres around Kent Lake, a 1,200-acre impoundment on the Huron River, and preserves the name of the former village of Kensington, which declined after its railroad service shifted to nearby South Lyon. Known for its wooded, hilly landscape, the park is organized around the lake and an extensive trail network, with paved, equestrian, and hiking paths. Golf courses, beaches, picnic areas, boating, camping, and family attractions have made it one of the region’s most heavily used parks, drawing about 2.5 million visitors annually.
