The Rice brothers were born here: Cale Young Rice, 1872-1943, a noted poet and author, and Laban Lacy Rice, 1870-1973, a well-known educator and author. After Cale's death, Lacy published The Best Poetic Works of Cale Young Rice, which included the poem "The Mystic." Cale married Alice Hegan, also a distinguished Kentucky writer. The home overlooks Memorial Garden.
