Ingraham Hill, a 1,824-foot mountain in New York’s Southern Tier south-southwest of Binghamton, has long been important to the surrounding metropolitan area because of its height. It is best known for the cluster of television and radio towers on its summit, including stations such as WBNG, WICZ, WIVT, WSKG-TV, WNBF, WAAL, WWYL, and WLTB, whose structures are visible across much of the region. The hill also once had a fire lookout tower, built in 1950 and placed in service in 1951. Fire detection there ended after 1970, and the tower was ultimately dismantled in 2016.
