Spire Mountain is a 6,213-foot peak in Washington’s Cascade Range, in the Wild Sky Wilderness northeast of Index and within Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Rising above tributaries of the Skykomish River, it is distinguished by a cluster of rock towers instead of a single summit. Its highest point, the Northwest Spire, was first climbed in 1934 by Dwight Dean and Kenneth Chapman, and the Central Spire was first ascended in 1938 by Karl Boyer, Lyman Boyer, and David Lind. The mountain stands in a North Cascades landscape formed by uplift, faulting, and repeated glaciation, with runoff feeding the Skykomish watershed and a wet marine climate bringing heavy winter snow.
