George Foulks was captured by Indians in 1780 and escaped to help his country. He was an outstanding character, a bold woodsman, a furbuyer, an Indian scout, and a thrifty businessman. He married C. Ullery in 1796 and built a stone house, mills, and the first brick house in the area, later known as Fennel House.
