Beaver Creek State Park in eastern Ohio combines recreation, natural scenery, and a long human history along Little Beaver Creek in the Appalachian foothills. People have lived in this valley for about 10,000 years, from the Clovis culture to later Native groups including the Mingo and Wyandot, and the area figured in events leading to Dunmore’s War. After settlement began in 1790, the valley became part of Ohio’s canal era through the Sandy and Beaver Canal, whose remains survive despite its early failure. The park also connects to John Hunt Morgan’s 1863 raid, and preserves sites such as Gaston’s Mill, Pioneer Village, and the creek’s rich wild and scenic landscape.
