The Regular Baptist Church of Shilo was founded on August 22, 1840, three miles east of the city. The log church was moved in 1841-2 to the southeast corner of Main and Huntsville Street. It burned during the Civil War period, and a second church was built on the same site in 1868, also serving as the first public school until 1885. Liberty Missionary Baptist bought a half interest in the second church in 1887 and Shilo's interest in 1899. Shilo Cemetery was located on church property by 1841 and was moved to Bluff Cemetery in 1895.
