Fossil Coral Reef
Le Roy, New York
Nature
Known locally as Bradbury Quarry, this protected paleontological site in Le Roy, New York, preserves a well-defined Middle Devonian coral reef within an abandoned limestone quarry of about 100 acres. It is important for the variety and quality of fossils exposed there, including rare tabulate and rugose corals along with crinoids, gastropods, and trilobites, which provide a clear record of ancient marine life. Its scientific significance was formally recognized in November 1967 through designation as a National Natural Landmark, and it continues to serve both preservation and study through use by local paleontology classes.
