Green Mountain
Nature
Green Mountain is a remote peak in the Glacier Peak Wilderness above the Suiattle River in Snohomish County, Washington, in the North Cascades. It is best known for the Green Mountain Lookout, a backcountry fire lookout whose preservation was secured by an Act of Congress in 2014. The mountain lies in a marine west coast climate shaped by Pacific weather rising over the Cascade Range, bringing heavy rain and snow, especially wet winters, dense maritime snow, and avalanche danger. Summers are often clearer, and the ocean’s moderating influence keeps temperatures west of the Cascade Crest from usually reaching extreme highs or lows.
