In 1844, Dr. Thomas and Louisa Harrison gave an acre of their Faunsdale Plantation for a log church designated Union Parish. In 1852, the name changed to St. Michael’s Parish. In 1855, slave artisans Peter Lee and Joe Glasgow built a Gothic Revival-style church. In 1888, the church was disassembled and moved to the town of Faunsdale. In 1932, it was destroyed by a tornado, and much of the interior wood was salvaged for a new brick church building. The northern part of the churchyard has graves of slave communicants. The oldest marked grave is Dr. Harrison’s, from 1858.
