Sunset Peak is a 10,648-foot mountain in northern Utah’s Wasatch Range, southeast of Salt Lake City near Brighton, within the Wasatch–Cache National Forest and on the boundary of Salt Lake, Utah, and Wasatch counties. Part of the Rocky Mountains, it has striking local relief, with its summit rising about 2,250 feet above Snake Creek in a single mile. Water from its slopes drains in three directions, feeding Big Cottonwood Creek, Snake Creek, and American Fork Canyon. At this elevation, the peak has a subarctic climate near alpine conditions, with snowy winters, cooler summers, and precipitation throughout the year. The name has been officially recognized and appears in records since at least 1915.
