Sugarloaf Mountain is an 11,051-foot peak in northern Utah’s Wasatch Range, on the boundary of Salt Lake and Utah counties at Alta Ski Area in the Wasatch–Cache National Forest. Part of the Rocky Mountain system, it is a striking landmark because it rises 2,250 feet above American Fork Canyon in only one mile, giving it exceptional local relief. The mountain also marks an important watershed divide, with runoff from its north slope flowing to Little Cottonwood Creek and water from its south slope draining toward the American Fork River. Its high elevation produces a subarctic climate near alpine conditions, with long snowy winters and cool summers.
