The Creed Building was originally the Creed Store. In 1923, Raymond R. Creed served as the Mayor of Gilbert in 1925, and Ethel Hoffman Lacy, shown in the center of the photo, was the postmaster at that time. Winnie Johnson, wife of Mickey Johnson, who owned Mickey's cafe, became the postmaster in 1932 and served in that capacity for over 30 years. After its time as the Creed Store, the store was known by many names, including Valenzuela's and Central Market, before becoming an electronics store. Clay used in the adobe bricks for many of the walls in Gilbert's old stores was dug from the ground here, creating a basement for the building. In the early 1990's, the Farmhouse restaurant moved to this location.
