Teterboro Airport was the home of Gates Flying Circus and built Fokker tri-motors flown by Richard E. Byrd over the North Pole in 1926, the Atlantic in 1927, and the South Pole in 1929, as well as by Amelia Earhart over the Atlantic in 1928. Clarence Chamberlin, Ruth Nichols, Floyd Bennett, Charles A. Lindbergh, Bernt Balchen, and Bill Odom flew here. The first airmail route to Boston was flown in 1926, and by 1972 Teterboro was a general aviation airport.
