Del Campo Peak is a prominent mountain near the western edge of Washington’s North Cascades, close to Barlow Pass, the Mountain Loop Highway, and the old Monte Cristo mining area. Named for a mining claim on its slope, it reflects the region’s mining history. J.A. Juleen made the first recorded ascent in 1912, and the name was submitted in 1917 by Dr. Harry B. Hinman and officially adopted in 1918 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. Rising above Gothic Basin and Foggy Lake, the peak stands in a wet marine climate shaped by tectonic activity and glaciation, with heavy snowfall, avalanche danger, and rugged surrounding scenery.
