Currin Bridge, a covered Howe truss bridge near Cottage Grove, Oregon, spans the Row River and stands out as the state’s only covered bridge painted with white portals and red sides. Built in 1925 to replace an 1883 bridge and named for an early pioneer family, it was erected by Lane County after county construction proved cheaper than the lowest outside bid. In 1979, a nearby concrete bridge took over vehicle traffic, leaving the old bridge open to pedestrians, and that year it joined the National Register of Historic Places. Repairs and restoration since then have preserved it as a notable part of Oregon’s covered-bridge heritage.
