Thomas E. Bramlette was born near here on Jan. 3, 1817. He served in the state legislature in 1841, was appointed by Gov. John Crittenden as the commonwealth's attorney in 1848, and was a circuit judge from 1856 to 1860. In 1861 he accepted a Federal Army commission, raised and commanded the 3rd Ky. Inf., resigned in 1862, was appointed by Pres. Lincoln as US district attorney, and was elected governor in 1863. He died in 1875.
