Mount Terror is the highest summit in the southern Picket Range of Washington’s North Cascades, a jagged and remote alpine landscape shaped by uplift, faulting, and glaciation over millions of years. About 15.7 miles south of the Canadian border, it stands among notable nearby peaks and exemplifies the steep relief and sharp ridges of the range. Its climbing history began in 1932 with the first ascent by William Degenhardt and Herbert Strandberg of the Seattle Mountaineers, and thirty years later Ed Cooper led the first ascent of the more difficult north face. Heavy Pacific precipitation and unstable winter snow add to its serious alpine character.
