The Montgomery County Jail and Sheriff's Residence in Crawfordsville, Indiana, is a rare 19th-century building that combined a county jail and the sheriff’s home under one roof. Built in 1882 of red brick and limestone, its 2½-story design blends Italianate, Gothic Revival, and Romanesque Revival features. Its greatest distinction is the rotary jail, a rotating cell block system found nowhere else in Indiana and surviving in only one other example in the United States. Now a local history and prison museum, it preserves both domestic and penal history. Its significance has been recognized through listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and designation as a National Historic Landmark in 2023.
