Private George (Fruts) Fruits of the Pennsylvania Militia served in the American Revolution. He joined the militia at an early age and reportedly lived past 114, making him the oldest surviving veteran of the war. The granting of his widow’s pension and the inscription on his tombstone are evidence of his service and age. His tombstone records that George Fruits died Aug. 6, 1876, aged 114 years, 7 months, and 4 days, and calls him “a remnant of the Revolutionary War.”
