During World War II, from 1941 to 1945, men and women from Slippery Rock served their country, including Donald H. Blyth, George I. Brown, C. Lacy Christley, Carl O. Hallberg, Vasily Katske, J. Calvin McCoy, Fred U. Meadows, Fred D. Nightwine, Pasquale Niro, Joseph E. Ott, Joseph P. Spataro, John R. Shields, Howard S. Wilson, and Paul R. Wimer. Their service was honored with the words, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
