Originally completed in 1890, Fuller Covered Bridge was the last of the many covered bridges constructed in Montgomery by brothers Savanard and Sheldon Jewett. They used the Town lattice truss system, a design patented in 1820 by architect and civil engineer Ithiel Town, consisting of a rectangular timber frame connected by sawn planks arranged in lattice form and fastened with trunnels, or wooden pegs. The hemlock timbers used to build Montgomery's covered bridges were milled at the Jewett family lumber mill in West Hill. After severe deterioration and flood damage, the single-span Fuller Covered Bridge was dismantled and reconstructed in 2000, and it extends nearly 50 feet over Black Falls Brook.
