Fort Johnson North Wildlife Management Area, locally called Peason Ridge WMA, is a 74,309-acre protected area in western Louisiana spanning Natchitoches, Sabine, and Vernon parishes. Managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, it is shaped by both conservation and military use through overlapping Army, Department of Defense, U.S. Forest Service, and Kisatchie National Forest jurisdictions. Expanded in 2016 by 23,300 acres, it is managed for hunting, fishing, and habitat, though military activity can restrict access. Its pine ridges and creek bottoms support varied plant communities and game species, and it contains important habitat for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
